Survival Expert Thomas Coyne and International Stuntwoman Ky Furneaux to “Hike for Survival,” on Friday, September 10, 2010

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 23, 2010

Los Angeles, CA—August 23, 2010. Wilderness survival expert Thomas Coyne and international stuntwoman Ky Furneaux have joined forces to “Hike for Survival.” Beginning on Friday, September 10, the duo will set forth from Central California at the Kaweah River Reservoir in the Sierra Nevada Mountain range, where they will journey across approximately 125 miles to reach the Mojave Desert. For this extreme adventure, the team will only travel with a pocketknife and a daypack through challenging wilderness, without any water, food or fire. They will each carry small POV cameras as well as a high-definition hand-held video camera to capture every step along the way.

“From the moment we wake up till the moment we go to sleep, we will be focused on obtaining fire, water, food, medicine and shelter,” said Coyne, founder of Survival Training School of California. “We will do this while hiking from one point to another.”

With such minimal supplies finding food, water and shelter will be the most difficult part of the challenge and more important than the distance traveled in a day. The length of the journey and the terrain the team is covering requires a large amount of calories to be consumed in a day. If the lost calories are not easily replenished, eventually the team will not have the energy to able to finish the hike.

“In my line of work I face extreme challenges everyday,” said Furneaux. “But this is different. It is about endurance and the power of both the mind and body. It will be one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.”

In addition to capturing the journey on film, the duo is also planning on keeping field journals of the experiences so that they can share their stories. A GPS will help fans monitor the progress of the “Hike for Survival” team, while they are en route pinpointing their location and allowing for updates on their adventure.

Coyne and Furneaux are no strangers to adventure. While Coyne created Survival Training School of California, Furneaux, is an International stuntwoman based in Hollywood. She will next appear in the feature films “Thor,” and “Tron: Legacy.” She is currently filming “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”
